What to do if you’re locked out of your car after hours?

Being locked out of your car at any time is stressful. It is particularly frustrating when it’s late at night, where help might not be available until the next morning – and you might also be miles away from home.

What to do when you lock yourself out of your car after hours on the Gold Coast?

1. Stay calm, and do not try to open the door yourself

Whatever the situation or the time is, and wherever you are on the Gold Coast, being locked out of your vehicle is always solvable even if it may take a short while. There are plenty of articles suggesting that you could use a coat hanger or similar items to force the car door open in an emergency. It might look like a good idea, however, we do not recommend this at all. What you can do instead is to call a professional, 24/7 mobile emergency locksmith and get your car unlocked in no time.

Trying to force open your door could potentially damage the vehicle or its window, which could void your warranty and bring about expensive repair fees. On top of this, trying to pry open the door could set off your car alarm – this would cause a lot of disruption late at night and potentially leave you looking like the guilty party, which is definitely less than ideal.

2. Check if you have a car app on your Smartphone

This might not apply to every model, but more and more cars are starting to come with connected apps which allow you to remotely monitor your vehicle’s performance. If you’ve got a new-ish vehicle with a remote keyless entry system, you may be able to use a smartphone app to unlock your car. Check if you have one. If your car has an app that does this, then be sure to download it in case you find yourself in a sticky situation.

3. Do not contact the emergency services unless necessary

It may be tempting to report this as an emergency in the heat of the moment, but in many cases, this would accomplish nothing other than wasting time. If there is a pet, child, or a vulnerable person of any age trapped inside, then that is another matter entirely. Even in this instance, however, a quick locksmith will likely be able to help on short notice, and without breaking any windows in the process.

4. Call an emergency locksmith
